• 25 Holy Cross Glee Club is renamed the Holy Cross College Choir, Bruce is named Asst. Professor of Music and the College Choir is offered as an academic course (2 credits per semester) for the first time.

• 21 HC Parents' Weekend concert, St. Joseph Memorial Chapel, HC. Program includes excerpts from The Pirates of Penzance - Bruce's first inclusion of Gilbert and Sullivan in a program at Holy Cross. The group that was to evolve into the Chamber Singers makes its debut.

• Bruce plays Bishop Henry T. Dobson in the A.C.T. production of Anything Goes.
• FEBRUARY
• 5 Bruce leads the Holy Cross College Choir in a performance of Benjamin Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb at the annual meeting of the Academy of American Poets at the Church of the Transfiguration (the Little Church Around the Corner) in New York City.  Bruce's parents had been married in this church in 1946.  The Choir returned to Worcester that night in the middle of what has become known as the Great Blizzard of '78 (record snowfall in the northeast).
• APRIL Radio performance of The Spider's Web Production of the Life of Stephen C. Foster, including Bruce singing Beautiful Dreamer.
• OCTOBER
• 17 Worcester Consortium performance of Honegger's King David, Mechanics Hall, Worcester, MA.
• NOVEMBER
11 HC Parents' Weekend concert, St. Joseph Memorial Chapel, HC. Program: Misa Criolla (Ramírez); Two World Premieres: The Beatitudes (George Ashur) - commissioned by Bruce for the College Choir);  Songs of Holy Cross (Miller/Judd) - this has been performed annually at Parents' Weekends and other college functions ever since.
