I think it depends on where you live and the insurance company.

I have 3 security cameras on the outside of my home, and I told the insurance company, but they didn't care. No difference for me.

Best if you call the insurance company first.
References :
I don't know what things are like where you live, however here (Vancouver, BC, Canada) most insurance companies give up to 20% off depending on the protection you have. The better the system the less risk of loss hense lower rates.

Check out this site, if you want to find the cheapest home insurance just in one minute,

http://best-cheap-home-insurance-usa.blogspot.com/

Here you can get free quotes from different home insurance companies in your area, its the best way to find an afforable home insurance with a reliable company.

You may be reading the settlement wrong. They normally give you a check for the depreciated amount. When you buy your stuff, send them the receipts and they'll send you the check for the difference.
References :
Take the replacement item, it will be more than the depreciated value. Next time you renew your home owners ask about full replacement cost. Changing your coverage to that will cost maybe $50 more a year, but you won't have to deal with any of that depreciated value.
References :
It doesn't work that way. Rates are HEAVILY based on your credit score, and the cost to rebuild the home. You also need to know how old the house is. You can't buy homeowners insurance for one month at a time. If you're doing a budget for a school project, figure $2500 a year for insurance, but that's a WAG (wild a** guess). Figure property taxes at 3 - 4 times that, for your school project.
References :
agent, 21+ years
