I don’t know what things are like where you live, however here (Vancouver, BC, Canada) most insurance companies give up to 20% off depending on the protection you have. The better the system the less risk of loss hense lower rates.

Have AAA home insurance . National vendors are coming up with the replacements for all the items. Have lost almost all that i had in my home but the insurance plan says either a replacement of the item or the depreciated price. What should i take ? Please share your experiences.

Take the replacement item, it will be more than the depreciated value. Next time you renew your home owners ask about full replacement cost. Changing your coverage to that will cost maybe $50 more a year, but you won’t have to deal with any of that depreciated value.

Please, just and average for 1 month home insurace.

It doesn’t work that way. Rates are HEAVILY based on your credit score, and the cost to rebuild the home. You also need to know how old the house is. You can’t buy homeowners insurance for one month at a time. If you’re doing a budget for a school project, figure $2500 a year for insurance, but that’s a WAG (wild a** guess). Figure property taxes at 3 – 4 times that, for your school project.

Time to renew and I need to start shopping around. So who has the cheapest home insurance policies in California? My House is worth 1.4 mil. I’m having a hard time with ins. bec.even though it was built in 1927, I purchased it completely remodeled and refurbished with everything up to date however I dont have the paperwork for the work done from the previous owners to provide for the insurance compan stating so.

You get what you pay for. If you are looking just at price, technically California Fair Plan is a good choice. It’s bare bones property coverage for dirt cheap. But…it’s designed for people who cannot get coverage anywhere else. It’s the strip-down, fire-only type coverage. It does not offer liability, and it is generally NOT replacement cost, so you could be shooting yourself in the foot trying to save a buck by underinsuring your house. Just ask those who’s homes were distroyed this year. I am sure a fair number of them are regretting looking at JUST the bottom line.

If you are looking for REAL coverage, ie: take care of your assets, look around and compare notes. How much are you trying to cover? Do you have discounts available (like non-smoker, over 65, multiple line, fire protection, or even job-related discounts like Farmers offers.)

Look in the phone book for agents and brokers in your neighborhood. Get several quotes for the EXACT same, or similar coverage. Then evaluate your options.

Skimping now could lead to REAL regret in the event of a catastrophic need. We had several people call in a panic during the wildfires and there was NOTHING I could do to help them then.

My mother-in-law died recently and her heirs are going through her papers to settle the estate. However, paperwork for home insurance hasn’t been found. Though it’s possible she didn’t have insurance, we want to find out if she did. How can we do so?

You look at her cancelled checks for the past year. If she didn’t write a check for homeowners insurance, she didn’t have any.

There is absolutely NO OTHER WAY to find out. There’s no ‘central database’ and no agency tracks those records.

We are planning to buy a home in north natomas sacramento area. We are just curious as to how much insurance might cost in this area including flood insurance considering it is in a flood zone. We are planning to spend approximatly $200,000.

I think you really haev to ask an agent about that.

Things which can effect your discount are whether all the windows and doors are contacted, motion detectors, pre-entry protection (Glassbreaks) and of course smoke detectors and sometimes you may get an even higher discount if you have line cut protection. You really should be contacting your insurance company for the specifics.

Many insurance companies will not give you a discount if the system is not monitored, some will. The thing is, an alarm system is about more than just the insurance discount, if you do not see the value of a security system, the peace of mind and freedom it can provide, then maybe you should consider window bars.

As for what a system should cost, well that all depends on the scope of protection, the size of your home and the difficulty of the installation. I would highly recommend staying away from a wireless system. If the sales person tries to tell you they are better than hardwire…. chase him / her out of the house… just my professional opinion. A good hardwired system should range around $ 1,200 upwards. If you have a really small house then you may be able to get it for around $ 900 but that is pretty small. An apartment might be around 350 to 500.
